Amazon seeks Dutch distribution center

Amazon wants to open a distribution center in the Netherlands of 100,000 square meters. The e-commerce giant has been operating there since 2015 and has a Dutch online store since 2020. Currently, it delivers most orders from a delivery center at Schiphol Airport, while its products come from Germany.

So with its own distribution center, this should change. Sources in the logistics property world revealed this. Further details were not disclosed. It is also unknown when Amazon plans to move into the building. However, the sources did indicate that such locations are very rare.

Amazon is growing in the Netherlands

Physical presence is not entirely new in the Netherlands. Amazon already has a distribution center in the Avantis industrial estate, located on the border between Heerlen and Aachen. Although Amazon recruits both Dutch and German staff here, it focuses on the German market in terms of sales. Dutch orders are usually processed from a delivery center at Schiphol Airport. is still the largest market share.

The Dutch online store has been growing substantially in recent years. In 2021 it had a turnover of 1 billion euros. For comparison: Zalando had a turnover of 915 million euros that year. Only has with 4.1 billion euros a larger market share in the Netherlands.
